Bali, Experienced Slowly
Temples, rice terraces, ceremony and warmth — and a way of traveling that leaves room to actually feel it.
Is Bali right for you?
Bali suits travelers who want more than a beach — who are drawn to culture, ceremony, wellness and the kind of hospitality that stays with you. It rewards a slower pace and an open mind more than a packed itinerary.
La Semilla Travel hosts small-group Bali journeys and plans private Bali trips for couples, friends and families. Groups stay small on purpose, so cultural experiences stay personal.
Ubud vs. the coast
Ubud sits inland among rice terraces, temples and art studios — the cultural and wellness heart of the island. The southern coast brings beaches, sunsets and resort ease. Most travelers who see both come home glad they did.
Wellness and cultural experiences
Sound healing, water blessings at a holy temple, time with a Balinese healer, cooking classes, jewelry making and market mornings — these are the moments La Semilla travelers describe first when they get home.
Temples and respectful travel
Bali's temples are active places of worship. Sarong and sash, modest dress and the guidance of local hosts are part of visiting well. Traveling with local guides makes respectful travel effortless.
Bali for women travelers
Bali is one of the destinations women most often ask about when they're considering their first solo-but-not-alone trip. A hosted small group handles transfers, accommodations and daily logistics, so arriving on your own feels easy.
What makes Bali meaningful beyond sightseeing
Travelers rarely name a landmark as their favorite part. They name a conversation, a ceremony, a school visit, or the kindness of the people they met. Bali gives you those moments if the itinerary leaves room for them.
Why experience Bali with a small group
A small group makes access possible — a family compound, a healer, a kitchen — and keeps the group intimate enough that the experience stays personal rather than performed.
Mary’s Take
First-hand notes from hosting Bali journeys
What surprised me most about Bali was that the places I remember most weren’t necessarily the places I had seen all over Instagram. Bali is beautiful, of course, but what stays with me is the feeling of it—the warmth of the people, the daily offerings, the ceremonies, the spirituality, and the way life seems to invite you to slow down. First-time visitors often arrive with a long list of temples, waterfalls, and photo stops they want to see, but Bali is one of those destinations where I think you experience more when you actually plan a little less.
If I were choosing where to spend my money, I would invest in experiences that allow you to connect with Bali rather than simply see it. One of my personal favorites is a water purification ceremony at Taman Beji Griya. It felt intimate, meaningful, and much more experiential than simply visiting another crowded temple. I would personally skip trying to squeeze every famous attraction into one trip—and I wouldn’t feel like you have to visit a place just because social media says it’s a “must-see.” Some of Bali’s most popular spots can be extremely crowded, and there is so much more to the island than getting the same photograph everyone else has.
For a first trip to Bali, I recommend giving yourself enough time to experience at least two very different sides of the island. Spend time near the coast in Uluwatu, and then slow things down in Ubud, one of my favorites, where you can experience the temples, rice terraces, wellness, food, and culture that make Bali so special. Leave room in your itinerary for a spa afternoon, a wonderful meal, a conversation with a local, or simply sitting by the pool without feeling like you should be somewhere else. Bali isn’t a destination I believe you should rush through. The magic is often in the moments you never planned.

Travelers who have been
Full stories from women who traveled to Bali with La Semilla Travel.
What began as a group of strangers became a circle of extraordinary women with whom I formed deep and meaningful connections that I know will last a lifetime.
For my birthday this year, I decided to finally take a trip I had dreamed about for years… Bali.
I found Mary through a friend who had gone on one of her trips the previous year and could not recommend her highly enough, so I signed up alongside six women I had never met before.
When friends asked me who I was traveling with, I honestly said, “I don’t know! I am traveling with six women I have never met before.”
There was some risk in saying yes to a trip with complete strangers, but it ended up being one of the greatest gifts of the experience.
What began as a group of strangers became a circle of extraordinary women with whom I formed deep and meaningful connections that I know will last a lifetime.
From the very beginning, Mary was extraordinary. She possesses every quality you could hope for in someone planning and guiding such an experience. She tends to every single detail, is incredibly attuned to how everyone is doing, and most importantly, is one of the kindest, most thoughtful human beings I have ever met.
The trip itself was the perfect blend of spiritual adventure, cultural immersion, amazing accommodations, beauty, laughter, and connection.
Experiencing the Balinese people and culture in such an authentic way deeply touched me. This journey exceeded my expectations in every possible way.
What I never anticipated was that although I began the trip with six complete strangers, I would return home with deep and profound connections to women I believe will remain in my life for years to come.
If you are considering traveling with Mary, do it! It was truly one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences of my life.
This was so much more than a vacation. It was a truly meaningful and special journey that I’ll carry with me for a long time.
Bali has always been somewhere I dreamed of visiting, but I never expected the experience to impact me as deeply as it did.
Mary made the entire trip feel effortless. I didn’t have to worry about the details—I could simply be present and experience everything Bali had to offer.
Some of the moments I’ll never forget were sitting with a Shaman, my conversation with the Medicine Woman, experiencing multiple sound-healing sessions, and visiting a local school and orphanage.
But what made Bali so special is difficult to put into words. It’s not just the places you visit—it’s how the experience makes you feel and the people you meet along the way.
This was so much more than a vacation. It was a truly meaningful and special journey that I’ll carry with me for a long time.
I would highly recommend traveling with La Semilla Travel. Mary takes care of all the details so you can simply show up, be present, and experience the journey.
La Semilla Travel handled everything—from hotels, tours and transportation to visas and entry requirements. You really don’t have to think; you just show up!
A beautiful and wonderful experience in Bali!

Mary is always on-site and hands-on to make sure things run smoothly, with beautiful, intentional cultural experiences such as meeting a shaman, Balinese cooking classes, jewelry making, experiencing a water blessing at a holy water temple, hotel transfers, and many more.
I can’t wait for my next trip with her to Vietnam and the Christmas markets!
Unlike the other women, I didn’t know anyone. Thankfully Mary was able to match me with a roommate that was perfect for my personality.
I absolutely recommend it! I had a life-changing experience.
The trip to Bali was magnificent and even though I was a little apprehensive at first, I decided just to go for it.

I couldn’t have had a better experience and would do it again—and plan to next year.
I loved Bali and especially Nusa Dua and Seminyak and would definitely go back.
As far as a solo traveler, a piece of advice: just go for it and be flexible!
If there are other women out there that are hesitant or unsure about taking a trip with strangers or women they don’t know very well, the first thing I can say is just make the decision to go for it!
One of the best decisions, both times. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, plus chances are you are not the only one.
I really don’t have a favorite part of the trip. Snorkeling is definitely at the top. I also really enjoyed Tanah Lot and the temple purification. Absolutely the spa day and sound healing were up there too. I think those two things are a definite on my list every time!
The people are so incredibly kind and welcoming and I just can’t say enough good things about them. The people I have met during both trips are definitely something I will always remember.
One of the things that surprised me was their incredibly kind and peaceful nature. It makes me want to go to other Asian countries.
Lastly, and I don’t think this occurred to me until recently, is just how much fun both trips actually were! It’s not just the sightseeing and tours and going places. No matter what we were doing, even if it was just relaxing by the pool, it was a heck of a good time. So much fun!
Mary pays attention to every detail from start to finish and things go smoothly and efficiently, not to mention how much she cares and takes the time with each one of us.
I would seriously go on each and every trip if time and money permitted!
“I was hesitant to go as a solo traveler, but it was the experience of a lifetime.”
